Establish a seed systems platform compatible with existing agro-ecological environments to supply farmers with high quality seed and planting materials so as to improve livelihoods, food security and incomes of smallholders
Objectives:
Making available to the farmers quality seed of cereals, legumes, vegetables, potato, fruits and fodder; capacity developments of men and women farmers in production of quality; farmers’ involvement in production of quality seeds, and demonstrating modern seed production techniques through demonstration plots will improve farm productivity and income.

Fergana Valley (Tajikistan and Uzbekistan)

Farmers’ participation in production of quality seed of cereals and legumes
Capacity development of farmers and researchers in seed production of wheat and food legumes
Farmers Field Days to observe demonstration plots of quality seed production of cereals and legumes
Establishment of winter wheat-summer legumes crop rotation for additional income from the second crop of legume in the system
Gender dimension:
Men and women farmers and researchers will be trained in the areas quality seed production of cereals, legumes, vegetables and potato, and earn more through adoption of improved crop rotation.
Research Outputs:
At least 50 farmers involved in production of quality seed of cereals and legumes
One training organized on quality wheat seed production
One field day organized to observe demonstration of quality cereals and summer legumes
Initiate winter wheat-summer legumes annual crop rotation to increase income and improve soil health
Research Outcomes:
At least 40 ha planted for quality seed production of new winter wheat varieties to produce at least72 ton seed.
At least 2 ha seed multiplication of new mungbean varieties to produce at least 2 ton seed.
Seed producing farmers’ income increased by at least 20% through quality seed production compared to grain production.
Capacity of at least 50 men and women farmers, seed producers, researchers and policy strengthened in seed production of cereals and legumes
Winter wheat-summer legumes crop rotation established in at least two farmers’ field, and additional income earned through second crop.
